Sustainable
Agriculture Educator of the Year

Der Xiong, Extension agent in Catawba County, won the 2015 NC SARE Outstanding Sustainable Ag Educator of the Year at the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association's Sustainable Ag Conference.  Dr. Sanjun Gu presented the award to Der, siting her efforts with the region's Farm School, her ag service in the Hmong community, and general efforts to promote sustainable agriculture with her clients.  Congratulations, Der!

Accepting nominations
for 2016 Outstanding Extension Educator in Sustainable Agriculture

NC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education 2016 Outstanding Extension Educator in Sustainable Agriculture Award North Carolina SARE announces open nominations for the NC SARE Outstanding Extension Educator in Sustainable Agriculture for 2016.  The award will be presented at the 2016 CFSA Sustainable Agriculture Conference in Durham, North Carolina, November 4-6.  Last year's award winner was Der Xiong of Catawba County. Please take a few minutes to nominate a worthy candidate for this award.  Prior nominations and self-nominations are eligible. The Extension Educator should have a strong program committed to sustainable agriculture.  The Extension Educator should be an effective collaborator, and have demonstrated impacts in the area of sustainability. To nominate a candidate, please submit: A nomination statement (1 page or less) in the form of a letter. Describe why the Extension Educator deserves this award. Describe the Educator’s extension programming and how it promotes sustainable agriculture in the state. Up to three (3) supporting documents to strengthen the nomination statement. Documents may include a power point presentation, newspaper (or other) article, fact sheet, authored publication, etc. Statements from farmers or clients served are also helpful.  These items will not be weighted as strongly as the nomination statement. The deadline for nominations is September 9, 2016. The Selection Committee will include the NC SARE State Coordinators and the NC SARE Advisory Committee.
